LEARN FROM OTHER Chapter two “LEARN FROM Imam Syafi’i’s mother”

Tuesday, 3 June 2014

By Rapidah Fitri

Hi guys, thanks for visiting and reading my article in my blog. Don’t you want to know what is topic in my article now? Okay, let’s read you will know later.

I had told to you about someone who has good experience in learning in my article before. It was about “Learning from other” (in chapter one the source is from “Mahbub Pasca Al-bahy”). And now, I am going to tell you about Learning from other chapter two” it is also about someone who is very amazing. He is Imam Syafi’i.
He was someone who is very amazing and smart, all people who is Muslim have known about him. But guys, actually I will not talk about him here because I am going to talk about his mother.
Many people have known about Imam Syafi’i, right? But just little people know about his mother. In other article I also have told to you about “how to educate children by Chinese way”. If I have told to you about Chinese way, so now I am going to tell you about Islam’s ways. Anywhere and anytime if there is someone who is amazing, of course there is an amazing mother behind them.
One of big favor that Imam Syafi’i had been about his mother. His mother understood that looked for knowledge is very important especially about religion. Although Imam Syafi’i was fatherless and his mother hadn’t wealth but Imam Syafi’i still became someone whom we have known, he is one of big Imam for us. Those were because of his mother who had strong desirability to make Imam syafi’i be great person. So, Imam Syafi’i could get education (religion) since he was child. Destitution was not be a problem for them. His mother had strong desirability.
Imam Syafi’i said that “I grow as someone who is fatherless and just my mother who guide me, and actually she has not wealth to pay my teacher. But, she still could make me learnt many things.
“Mother of imam syafi’i ever did not open the door for him when he came back to home before he got knowledge” said Uluwaaul Hmmah.
From this short story we have known that knowledge is very important for us especially religion.
When Chinese mothers teach their children, the first subject that they will teach is about instrument before other. Because they believe that, instrument will make their brain better. This is different with Islam ways. In Islam, the first subject that we must know is about religion. Because it will make us know about each knowledge. It is the way of Islam.
These are some things about Islam’s ways in educating their children that we can get from this short story:
1.     A mother must have duty in educating their children.
2.    Destitution should not be a reason to learn knowledge (religion).
3.    Destitution should not be a reason to don’t worship.
4.    Keep spirit to find knowledge. It is very important.
5.    Good parents who think of their children will not just think about “how to make their children be happy in this world”. But they also think “how to make their children can get much knowledge for hereafter”.
This is my article about knowledge in religion. I hope you know that learning is not just about this world because the first knowledge that we must know is about religion. We must learn from this story to be better. I believe that if we learn religion more than other knowledge, we will more understand about this world and get the miracle of learning, and we also know about other knowledge in this world.

BATTLE HYMN of THE TIGER MOTHER “AMY CHUA” Part 2

By Rapidah Fitri

Hi, guys. As my promise to you before, in this part I am going to tell you about Part 2 of BATTLE HYMN of THE TIGER MOTHER “AMY CHUA”. This part is about battle journey of a mother “Amy Chua” and her children “Sophia and Lulu”.

“Sophia” is the first child of Amy Chua and her husband. She is very smart. She had known about alphabet when she was 18 months. She is the winner in her class especially in math. When other children learnt how to count 1 until 10 by American creative way, but for Sophia, she learnt how to learn increment, alleviation, multiplication, decimal and other by Chinese way. It was very amazing.

But, you know guys. This is very different with her second child “Lulu”. Actually, lulu is also very smart but she is a protester girl. She never wants to do something that she doesn’t want. If she can, she will not follow desirability of her mother. But she must still do anything that her mother wants.

Amy Chua wants Sophia and Lulu can speak Chinese and be the best students in all lessons, so every day they must always speak Chinese. She always says to her children “Don’t complain or make many reasons, if there is something that is unjust in your school, just give proof that you are better than them by learning harder”.

Every day Sophia must exercise piano minimal 90 minutes included when holiday. Chinese parents understand that there is no something happy until we can do the best, they always want to have perfect score from their children because they believe that their children can do that. And for doing that, they must learn. And practice diligently is very important for getting grandeur; but, always practices are not really important in America.

Amy Chua said to Lulu and Sophia; “parents are still our parents, we have debt with them. So, we must do anything for our parents”.

Many things happen in Amy Chua’s family, sometime that happen was happy and made them still close. But, sometime they will battle and make something was sad.
Focus to educate children by Chinese way is a big achievement. Anything that I do is 100% just for my children “Lulu and Sophia”. Said Amy Chua.

Amy Chua said to herself that “educate children by Chinese way is something that most difficult that I can daydream. Sometime, someone who we love very much must hate us. This is like a hard battle that there is no final, always demand commitment 24 hours every day, tenacity and braveness. But when we are winner, it will give us a big opportunity and it means freedom.

Well friends, those all the short story of tiger mother bf Amy Chua. I hope this story will give you information what is way that will you choose to educate your children.

“If educate children by Chinese way will get successful, there is no something that will make it lose. But this way isn’t always success”.
“I believe lucky and harder I try, I will get many lucky” By Benjamin Franklin.

BATTLE HYMN of THE TIGER MOTHER “AMY CHUA” Part 1

By Rapidah Fitri

Life is just for a moment and really brittle, of course we must make every single breath in our life become meaningful, every second of our time that has been elapsed. “Amy Chua”.

My article before was about John Wood “The Room to Read”. This article told about someone who likes learning very much and care about education in this world. But now, my article will not be like that again. Because this article will tell about “How Chinese’s parents educate their children”.

“Amy Chua”. Have you heard this name?
She is one of mother from china. She has two children, their name are Sofia and Lulu. She educates her children by Chinese culture and she thinks that Chinese way is better than western. Actually friends, this culture is very terrifying for people that haven’t strong heart. Because here, Amy Chua really makes her children did anything that she wants until they can be successful. She never thinks her children like or dislike doing something, she doesn’t care about that. So, this way is like warfare between mother and child.

Amy Chua never thinks that she will lose in educating her children, but one day she was defeated by her child “Lulu 13 years old”. When winter came, Amy Chua taught Lulu how to play piano but Lulu didn’t want to do that. Again and again she always forced lulu to play the piano until finish. Finally, Amy Chua couldn’t control her emotion and asked lulu to stand in front of their house without wearing her jacket. Some minutes had passed, Lulu still stood outside. It made Amy Chua was anxious. Later, Amy Chua asked her to come in to their house. But, Lulu didn’t want to do it because she didn’t want to lose in this battle. Her lips was blue, her body was aquiver. She was still stubborn. Amy Chua was very confused; she said that “Lulu, come in. you will get sick”. But, she still stood; she didn’t care about her body. Amy Chua asked her again and begged until genuflected in front of her. And finally, Lulu came in to their house.

Look friends, from this short story we know that culture of Chinese mother is very dangerous if we haven’t have hard heart. This culture is very controversial, so is this book. Many people said that “Amy Chua is very cruel with their children”. But actually, there are many mothers from another countries who are same like Amy Chua and agreed with her, such as; Irish mother and Jewish mother. Those are because they believe in their children. Amy Chua said that “I just wanted my kids to be the best; they could be because I felt like that”.

Amy Chua said that “these are something that my children mayn’t do”:

1.     Staying in her friend house.
2.    Make a promise to play something with her friends.
3.    Join in drama class in her school.
4.    Complain because I don’t give permission to join in drama class.
5.    Watching TV or playing games in computer.
6.    Choose extracurricular by their selves.
7.    Get score under A.
8.    Do not get number one in all of lessons except sport and drama.
9.    Playing instrument except piano and violin.
10. Do not play piano or violin.

       This is a fact about culture of china. Chinese mother believes that “their children can be the best student. And their achievement in their school is a success in educating their children”. And they believe that;

1.     Homework must be always number one.
2.    Score A- is bad.
3.    Their children must have ability in match 2 years on their friend’s ability.
4.    Parents can’t examine their children in front of other people.
5.    If sometime their children have different opinion with their teacher, parents must support the teacher.
6.    They just can join in an event that can give them medal.
7.    And the medal must be gold.

Yeah guys, these are the fact of Chinese culture. Until now, I haven’t told you about their battle journey yet. Because I am going to tell you about that in Part 2 of BATTLE HYMN of THE TIGER MOTHER “AMY CHUA”.

LEARN FROM OTHER

Chapter one “LEARN FROM YEMEN”

Someone said that “learning is when we find something new, and later we can eliminate our own and other’s folly. So, we can do something right and prevent something wrong around us. (Mahbub Pasca Al-bahy.)

Learning is Conscious effort of someone to change him or herself. Miss. Fitria (Student of PGSD in Tanjungpura University.)

Learning is how to change our mind to know something. Mr. Hendra (Student of STAIN University.)

Learning is how to find something that we don’t know before and something that we have known but we learn it again. Totok Victor Didik Saputro (Student of Sanatadarma University.)

In the articles before, I have explained many things about learning. I have told that “learning is a must for us.” So, in this article, I would like to tell you how to learn well from other people that have known how to do it.

This is about experience of someone who had learnt in Yemen, his name is Mahbub Pasca Al-bahy. We call him Pasca. He is 18 years old. He was a student of one of boarding schools in Yemen. Actually before going to Yemen, he had studied in one of Yogyakarta boarding schools. There, he learnt about religion and memorizes Al-Qur’an, but for 3 years he couldn’t do it and finally he stopped and went to Yemen. In Yemen, he still learnt about religion. Subhannallah “Amazing”. There, just for 1 year he could memorize Al-Qur’an. In one day, he could memorize 7 until 10 sheet of page (1 juz). How did he do that? Yeah, this is a big question for us? Still read, you will know the answer.

Pasca’s experience gave us a proof that Indonesia hasn’t good education system until now. He said that “many teachers in Indonesia that teach just for money and money, they don’t teach as a good teacher, they just impose their desirability to their students. And they can’t control their emotion well.

Those are because Indonesia has high target in learning. Such as; in the junior and senior high school we have many subjects. It’s about 7 until 10 subjects in one week and plus homework, and we also must understand all of them. The teachers don’t care we understand or not. They just think that we must do what they want! Those targets make students can’t learn well. And finally, when students have homework or examination they will cheat to other. So, the targets of Indonesia education are failed and vain.

Pasca told that “actually, when I was student at junior high school, I was ever absent for 30 days. It was because, I didn’t want to learn and it made me almost wouldn’t go to next class. But, the headmaster said to me. ”Pasca, actually you can’t go to next class. But I still make you can go on because I know you have good potency”. It made me could change my mind and in second grade I could get seventh rank. “We should have teacher like him, but as we know just little teachers of Indonesia can be like that”.

All of Indonesia’s education system is very different with Yemen. Pasca said that “When he learnt in Yemen, he learnt without electricity. There, all of the teachers never forced their desirability to him. The teachers gave him freedom to learn. They just wanted he understood about what he learnt although he just learnt little. The teacher doesn’t think of money. They have good character. There, they always compete in doing something good; even to take rubbish they always compete, no matter teachers or students. If they see rubbish they will take it and throw it to garbage bin, they will not reigning other to do it. Even there, he learnt free without cost with one teacher, his name is Mr. Abdul Aziz. Every day he and his friends always came to their teacher’s home to learn with him. Pasca said that “one day, my friend and I couldn’t come to our teacher house (Mr. Abdul Aziz) and it made him called me, and said “why didn’t you come to my house?” I have prepared food and drink for you” he said like that. He never distinguishes his students, he always glorified people who want to learn with him. He said to me “imam syafi’i ever said that “I get this knowledge is free. So, I also will give this knowledge free.”

When Pasca learnt in Yemen. Yemen was very dangerous because many battles. But when he and his friends want to learn they didn’t care about anything. They just thought of learning. Just for learning with their teacher, they ever met soldier and entered to jail sometimes. So did Pasca. But there, because I liked to learn religion with my teacher in Yemen, I am a brave person to do anything, what I want to do is only learning, said Pasca.

And for the last, these are tips by Pasca how to learn well and memorize Al-Qur’an. He said that:
1.     We mustn’t learn what we don’t need because we have priorities.
2.    We must be able control our selves when learnt.
3.    This is about “restrain our selves” if you want to memorize Al-Qur’an.
4.    Environment and friends will support your way to learn.
5.    Find good teacher is the best way to learn.
6.    If you learn little and you understand, it is better than learn many but you don’t understand.

Well friends, those are the experiences of Mahbub Pasca Al-bahy. I hope this article can give you more informations and inspirations to learn well.

“Everyone who his character (akhlak) is better than you. So, his knowledge (religion) is better than your knowledge (religion).” {Ibnu Hazm}

ROOM to READ

Wednesday, 7 May 2014

By. RAPIDAH FITRI (F1021131027)

John Wood was an employee in Microsoft Company; his work covered Asia Pacific. And now he is the founder of “Room to Read”; a library that supplies many books for children in poor countries. This time, more than 7000 libraries have built in many poor countries.

This history was started when john was in a holiday in Nepal, on the top of Himalaya Mountain. In the cool morning at the small restaurant, he remembered his job in Microsoft Company. Every day he had to work hard. He never felt happy with his job. So, having a holiday in Nepal made him really happy. There, he met an old man. His age was maybe at 50 years old, his name was Pasupathi. John talked to him, john asked him about his job. He said “I am someone who responsible for 17 schools in this province”. He told john about those schools. He said “every day, I must walk 200 miles to those schools. There, the students are very smart. They also like learning. They have high spirit to learn this world, but there are many things that made them unable to learn well.” Those all made john wanted to visit those schools. Finally, Pasupathi took John to visit one of those schools: the school in Bahundandan village.
There, he met many students and teachers. He was very happy to meet them. But, when he looked around the school, he was very sad because the school has no floor and chair. The students just learnt on the land without a mat and put their books on their knees.

Later, John asked the teacher to take him to the library. He was very shock because there was only a dull world map on the wall. And he said “you have beautiful library, sir! But, there is no book here, where is the book?” Then, the teacher opened a roomette at the library. He said “we put all books here. But all of these books are broken and these are not good to read by children.”
At the time, John was really sad about the condition. His spirit was lost. The teacher said, “We know that book is very important for us. But, what must we do? We have no idea how to get the books.” And he said “maybe, one day you will come here again and bring the books.” This sentence has changed john’s life. Finally, before going back to his camp he said “I am going to come back to give books.”
John thinks, he was very lucky because when he was a child, he could read many books. He has liked reading so much since child, he has been greedy to read many books. Every week, he went to library and tried to borrow more books than other people. His childhood was full of books, he thinks how lucky he is. When he looked at the children who didn’t have lucky life like him, he becomes really sad.

And finally, with many efforts, he gave many books to school in Bahundandan village. There, the children were very happy, so did john. They welcomed John with their smile, they put the books that was brought by John enthusiastically; like the one who for the first time ever saw a book. They opened the books page by page, read all of the words and looked all the pictures happily and smiling. They also made a joke with their friends when read the book.
John was very happy, he never felt like that before. It made he changed his life better. And finally, he leaved Microsoft company and becomes one who helps many poor children, and changes this world through Room to read.
Oke friends, what do you think of this brief story? Of course, john finds the miracle of learning by reading a book. Reading a book will help you to understand and explore this world.  Ta- ta for now… ^_^
